Kouglof

There are several legends, explaining the origin of Kouglof, one of them claims that the Alsatian brioche originates from Bethlehem. A magician, coming out of the manger, would have forgotten his hat, a gold thread turban set with almond-shaped diamonds. On his return from crusade, this hat would have found a pastry shop in Strasbourg, which would have used as a mold.

Thus would be born the “Kugelhopf”, which means “turban” in Alsatian.

It is perfect to accompany coffee or tea. You can find it in several sizes but its original one is a big one Kouglof which you cut in pieces, just like you would do with a Bundt Cake. Right now is in trend in France the tiny versions of every pastry, even the big Kouglof.
