Tres Leches Cake

The origin of the three milk cake is debatable. Most historians give Nicaragua credit for the invention of the cake. Others give credit to Mexico as it had similar recipes for the three-milk cake.

What virtually all historians assume, however, is that the recipe originated somewhere in Latin America, as a promotional campaign conducted by a canned milk producer to increase sales.

This may have happened towards the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century, since condensed and evaporated milk were available for the first time in the 1850s to 1870s.

The three-milk cake is especially popular in Nicaragua, Mexico, Cuba , Puerto Rico, Colombia and Guatemala.
