“Although it has not been possible to clarify exactly who invented the panellets, we can find its origin in the old funeral cults, which consisted of bringing small rolls as an offering to the church or to the graves of the deceased on this holiday. It is also believed that the origin of this tradition could come from the Arabs by the type of mass, but the first news that they have dated from the end of the 18th century.

Initially, they were elaborations that were made in the farmhouses after the harvest of the dried fruit. Later they could be acquired by All Saints and after religious celebrations, for which they were considered a blessed food. Its high caloric content – together with chestnuts and sweet potatoes – made it a perfect product for the long and cold nights of All Saints Day (November 1) and Day of the Dead (November 2), during which time I was watching.

At present, the tradition of eating for All Saints remains very much alive in Catalonia, Aragon, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands”
